In order to ensure the safety of children while playing, the Australian government recently released a newChildrens toysSafety standards.

On September 4, 2023, the Australian government announced this mandatory toy safety standard, called Consumer Goods (Childrens Toys 36 months and Under) Safety Standard 2023. This standard is mainly aimed at toys used by children aged 36 months and below. Its core purpose is to minimize the risk of choking or suffocation caused by small parts in toys, as well as the resulting serious injury or death.

1. Safety standards for the mechanical and physical characteristics of toys：The new standard stipulates that toy products only need to meet one of the following four standards：

(a) Australian/New Zealand standard AS/NZSISO8124.1:2023；
(b) International ISO standard ISO8124-1:2022；
(c) European EN standard EN71-1:2014+A1:2018；
(d) American ASTM standard ASTMF963-17.

2. Safety standards for electric toys：For electric toys, the product must comply with the Australian/New Zealand standard AS/NZS62115:2018. This revised requirement is designed to ensure that children 36 months and under cannot open the battery compartment or remove the battery without using any tools.

3. Button battery safety standards：In addition to the above regulations, all toys with batteries for children 36 months and under must also meet all other requirements in the Button Battery Safety Standard, especially the regulations on battery compartment fasteners.

In order to ensure that production and suppliers have sufficient time to adapt to this new standard, the government stipulates that suppliers must fully comply with the new mandatory standard requirements by March 4, 2025.
